The gold standard, as long as you are experienced
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates Microsoft Project from other similar products?
MS Project and Project Online are outstanding at what they do and are the foundational standard that more specialized products branch out from. The simplicity of building workable, visualized project plans is second to none.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Customization and flow control is some of the software's best features. I can set separate or custom schedules and apply them to groups or roles; in the matrix business environment that can be very helpful for estimating completion dates or headcount requirements.
What do you dislike most about this product?
If you know Project, it is excellent; if you do not, there is a steep ramp-up to learning how to set up and optimize project plans. This ramp-up often causes new users not to see as much value in the product since they don't know what they don't know.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
This is one of those programs/tools that can simplify your team's work, but you need to learn it, and I do not mean "learn as you go." If you are willing to invest in training or some administration support as you ramp, you will get the most out of the product.
Pros
- Enables Productivity
- Reliable
- Performance Enhancing
- Trustworthy
Cons
- Inhibits Innovation
- Slower Product Innovation
- Commodity Features

A project management tool supported by Microsoft
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates Microsoft Project from other similar products?
A workflow and project management program that integrates all the tools that are supported by Microsoft. The tool features Gantt Charts also with built-in report template and workflows. MS planner is also integrated along with all other major Business-related 3rd party tools.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
A friendly easy to use program that allowed us to properly manage our projects and resources. The tool supports Gantt Charts that are easy to build using the built-in template available only data set is needed to be entered. The tool is somewhat difficult at first glance and some training is required for new team members along with a very expensive price tag.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The project report is sometime buggy with an unresponsive print preview. The program is expensive and licensing all projects can take a lot of capital.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
The tool is not designed for small firms as most of the analytics work best when a bulk of data sets are available.
