What differentiates GitLab Ultimate from other similar products?

Great tool for simply sharing source code among team members. Simple task progress tracking and developer commit tracking tools for collaboration and connecting project modules with problems so that they are all related as a whole. Both the tool's simplicity and its integration with CI systems are excellent. As a single platform for software development, GitLab performs admirably.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

For the past few months, GitLab has served as my DevOps platform, and I cannot speak highly enough of it. The user interface is quite straightforward and user-friendly. This is a fantastic approach to begin using automation and CI/CD. The product is intended to be straightforward, simple, and quick to use. We are beyond pleased with GitLab because it has improved our lives so tremendously!

What do you dislike most about this product?

What I dislike is that although some repository features may be disabled because you don't use them, some overburden the user interface (UI) and you are unable to remove them since Gitlab uses this as an excuse to force you to upgrade to a more expensive plan.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

For our organization's exclusive version control system, I've been using Gitlab every day. I can easily assess my work in progress and keep track of the edits I made through commits and merges. Viewing and analyzing the code base modifications you made is simple. Continuous integration is also supported by typical CI/CD.

Gitlab's role specific permission controls sets it apart from other code repository platforms, we have tried for data science projects. Assigning specific roles to individual project team members, helps to avoid the struggles of concurrent code updates, and keeps our code repository activity very organized.

The ability to collaborate on the same codebase is among the major benefits, that we have derived from leveraging Gitlab as a repository for data science projects. Being able to distribute multiple copies of our project repositories and have team members contribute to existing project code, makes it convenient for data science professionals in my organization to work efficiently , remotely.

What do you dislike most about this product?

From a data science perspective , Gitlab is not designed to track changes in our uploaded data files. Regardless of whether, the data files are binary or tabular. The aforementioned highlights some of the difficulties that we face , using Gitlab as a repository for data science codes , even though it is mainly designed as a repository for software development teams.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

In summary , I will simply say that Gitlab has helped my department to organize data science codes into functions and classes. Making them easier to incorporate into the Gitlab development environment.

This enables teams to work together more efficiently, review code better and maintain high-quality standards. With the integrated CI/CD capabilities, teams can deploy new versions of the app quickly with minimal bugs. This helps ensure maximum productivity and quality assurance.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

It has made it easy for us to connect our workflow to external applications such as Slack, Jira and Zendesk. Having these integrations in place helps streamline our workflows by allowing us to easily communicate with other teams, diagnose problems and track progress. This has been incredibly beneficial for us as it allows us to quickly address any issues that arise and take action in a timely manner.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The interaction between macOS and Apple laptops can be deleted or at the very least improved. I occasionally see BSOD or crash difficulties while using Gitlab to upload my iOS code to production. It's not as reliable when compared to my experience on Windows. Better integration with Apple would be a great addition.

For those looking for an issue-tracking system to manage their projects, I highly recommend the CI/CD capabilities of Gitlab Enterprise. For teams working on agile sprints, it allows you to quickly deploy versions and test them for bugs. Having this automated process ensures that you can keep up with product releases and increase productivity.
