What differentiates AWS Database Migration Service from other similar products?
AWS DMS is cool because it is easy to use and doesn鈥檛 need you to shut down your database during migration. It supports a bunch of database types and handles most of the heavy lifting for you. And it works great with other AWS tools so everything fit together nicely.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
My favorite part is how it let you migrate with minimal downtime. You can keep your database running while moving it which make the whole process a lot less disruptive.
What do you dislike most about this product?
What I do not like is that it can be tricky to set up for more complex migrations especially if you dealing with big or highly customized databases. Sometimes troubleshooting issues can take longer as expected.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
I would recommend testing it on a small migration first to get the hang of it before tackling a big one. And make sure your source and target databases is supported, and keep an eye on performance during migration. If you already in the AWS ecosystem it will work even more smoother.
