The best and most accessible 2FA app available
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates Google Authenticator from other similar products?
The ability to store backup access codes in a Google user account is a fantastic addition for additional security.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Google Authenticator is great! I like the clean and simple user interface. The steps to add additional accounts are easy and if you have a large volume of connected profiles, the Search bar at the top will help to locate the right codes. A cool option is to synchronise your Google Authenticator app with your Google account. Rolled out earlier in 2023, users can save backup one-time codes to your Google account - handy if you've lost your mobile phone or telephone number.
What do you dislike most about this product?
There is nothing that I dislike about Google Authenticator.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
I encourage everybody to sync their Google Authenticator app with a Google user account. As one-time codes were historically stored on a single device, if that phone or tablet were lost or replaced, the user would have challenges logging into services that had 2FA set-up e.g., social media profiles. The new option to store backup codes in a Google user account means that in the unlikely scenario that a phone was stolen or damaged, users still have a way to regain access to all of their personal and professional accounts.
Pros
- Reliable
- Enables Productivity
- Trustworthy
- Efficient Service
Cons
- Charges for Enhancements
- Leverages Incumbent Status
- Commodity Features

What differentiates Google Authenticator from other similar products?
Google Authenticator is one of the best mechanisms for multi factor authentication. It adds an extra layer of security while login to web applications. Now a days SMS providers are charging a lot, whereas Google Authenticator works at almost negligible charges. It's easy to setup and use. You just need to install the Google Authenticator App from Play Store and configure it accordingly.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Google Authenticator is easy to use and generates the OTP code which remains for particular time and then expires and a new OTP code is generated. Google Authenticator thus acts as a 2 Factor Authentication along with user ids and passwords. Google Authenticator is very secure and being used by variety of applications for 2FA as an alternative to OTP SMS.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Google Authenticator is a great useful product and has no dislikes. It's available freely and can be integrated easily using its APIs. Google Authenticator can be used for multiple applications and different OTP codes can be mapped with different applications.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
I would surely recommend others to use Google Authenticator.
