is calling on the federal government to review the auction of Nortel Networks鈥� assets, claiming it was shut out of bidding for the troubled network hardware maker鈥檚 wireless properties.
Jim Balsillie, co-CEO of the BlackBerry maker, said his company was prepared to put down as much as US$1.1 billion for Nortel鈥檚 code division multiple access (CDMA)and Long Term Evolution (LTE) businesses, but restrictive conditions levelled on RIM鈥檚 bid is preventing the company from keeping Nortel鈥檚 assets in Canadian hands.
On June 19, for Nortel鈥檚 carrier wireless assets, but comparing this to RIM鈥檚 bid is not an 鈥渁pples to apples鈥� comparison, said Mark Tauschek, lead analyst with London, Ont.-based .
He was referring to the statement that the Waterloo, Ont. company is seeking, in addition to Nortel鈥檚 CDMA and LTE business, 鈥渃ertain other Nortel assets.鈥�
It was not immediately clear what those 鈥渃ertain other鈥� assets are.
鈥淭hey鈥檙e probably trying to buy some intellectual property in conjunction with it,鈥� Tauschek said.
